Meet Mya Brewer who will be starting this fall!
Mya has been teaching since 2014. She did gymnastics for 10 years, has been dancing for 19 years. She danced at Golden Slippers from 2003-2014 and competitively danced on the Elite Dance Team for five years. She grew up in Virginia Beach where she attended Salem High School for dance in the Visual and Performing Arts Academy. After high school, Mya joined CREWcial, a hip hop based dance crew in the Hampton Roads area, where she choreographed and performed up and down the East Coast, as well as, broadened her knowledge of various styles of hip hop dance through workshops. She later went to Temple University in Philadelphia where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science.
During her time at Temple University, Mya was a member of By Any Means Necessary Dance Company, a student dance organization, and was selected to perform in multiple shows put on by the Temple University Dance Department. While earning her Bachelor’s degree, Mya still traveled back home to choreograph competitively in the area. Mya discovered her love for teaching dance at the age of 15 when she became a teacher’s assistant for her ballet teacher at Golden Slippers and hasn’t looked back. She teaches various styles, however, her favorite styles are contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and acro. Welcome, Mya!
